Monthly Update: Twenty-Five Months

Oh wow, what a little person we have!

This month has been fun and frustrating all at the same time. You are the smartest little kid I have ever been around and I’m not just saying that because you are mine. While this is delightful in some ways – “Hey, look! She just counted to 20! She can sing the entire alphabet song! She is kind of ‘reading'”! It is also incredibly tiring. “Oh, she wants to read that book for the 40th time. Oh, she wants to make cookies again, Oh, she is throwing a fit because I gave her the ‘wrong’ sippy cup, Oh, more puzzles? Savannah, please stop opening the refrigerator.” Two is very bipolar.

I remember my friend Sharon commenting on her 2 year-old (at the time – she’s now three) little one and saying, “It’s exhausting in a whole new way” and that is the TRUTH! Savannah is an amazing sleeper most of the time and I don’t miss the newborn days – colic almost killed Conor and I. However, sometimes I do miss Savannah being entertained by a mobile for 20 minutes while I zoned out. But I suppose now I have an excuse to do puzzles and color.

The play kitchen is still HUGE! Savannah told me that she was a chef the other day. We make cookies and stew and delicious dishes for all of the Einsteins. Sometimes we make grape-apple pie-banana stew. Sometime we make grilled cheese with whipped cream on top. Play food has really come a long way since I was little.

Your singing has ramped up to hilarious levels. I was so glad we headed back to music class this week. I am treated to full length operas (sometimes at 4 in the morning – I swear, you just wake up singing and then go back to sleep after 15 minutes.). You can also sing complete songs from music class and the Einsteins. If you get stuck on a lyric, you look at me and say “What comes next?”

You have taken an interest in photography, much to my delight. We had a little lesson the other day (during the photo session with the tutu in the hard light) about looking for good light. Now, when I say I want to take your picture, you say “Savannah sit in the beautiful light.” Oh be still my heart! You happily play with one of my little plastic cameras that’s a holdover from art School. You even showed some little twin boys how to use it at a playdate the other day.

School started again today and boy were you excited! You couldn’t even talk when you saw your teacher. You just grabbed her hand and kind of panted with excitement. As she is a wonderful woman, she picked you up and said “I missed you too.”

We bought a potty chair recently and you enjoy sitting on it. We’re not ready for formal training yet, but now I have a bathroom buddy.

You have stopped saying “Oh” for “Yes” this past month and it’s one of those things that I was so happy about at first because it’s a great milestone, but then I missed your baby talk. Such a Catch-22. I was almost reduced to tears during Project Runway this week (they featured girls going to the prom) as I can just imagine that I’ll blink and you’ll be going to the Prom (after your dad has run a background check on your date).

We love you little one and we are soooo proud of you!
