How things have been

Ok, so here’s the scoop:

1. The E.R. – Our poor little miss has inherited both of her parents respiratory problems. Every little cold seems to stick in her lungs. One evening after we returned from a Dallas weekend trip, Savannah woke up with really, awful croup. It’s the worst she’s had. After a few minutes of a steamy shower and with all of the swine flu action happening in North Texas, we made the executive decision to take her to the ER. Fun, Fun.

It is amazing the calm that motherhood affords in an emergency situation. I very calmly told Conor to pack up our stuff and figure out which ER was closest, I grabbed a few crucial friends (Bubbles the Moo Cow and Annie), some snacks and juice (for her and me – I love a snack) and off we went. I held her in the backseat because I could not stand to put her in the car seat. Even with severe strider, she told me this was a ‘safety violation’.

We got to the ER and could not find the entrance. A really nice nurse pointed us in the right direction.

As we entered the ER, Savannah was coughing and the triage nurse immediately put a mask on her. We were ushered in quickly and asked if we had been out of the country, etc. Her oxygenation levels were good. Yea!

I should note that Savannah would not stop talking the ENTIRE TIME. She couldn’t get out a full sentence, but kept asking questions and pointing out things of interest. She even tried to convince me that she could sing. Uh, no wheezy, you can’t.

We were admitted and I cannot say enough about the wonderful Doctors and Nurses that we encountered at 11PM on a Monday night. They were amazing with our kiddo. Jim, the nurse (“Hey, that’s my Grandpa’s name!”) was especially awesome. We got the steroid treatments and within an hour were back to normal.

Conor especially was great. He read all the National Geographic magazines to Savannah and even found some weird periodical that had pictures of fighter planes. Our daughter is now well versed in our military might. She knows stealth technology, the Osprey and the F-22.

At about 1Am, we were discharged and we made our way home to collapse until 9AM the following morning. I am hopeful that someday she will outgrow the wheezes because I could stand a break between ER visits.
