Back from Austin for now

Hello!

We are back in mostly one piece from our week in Austin. It was a long trip back last night. We didn’t get in until 1 AM Seattle time, which is 3 AM Austin time. I am still very sleepy.

My conference was awesome and I learned lots. I will post some pictures I took while there when I get around to processing them, which at this rate, might be never. However, they are very cool and most definitely not your mother’s wedding photography.

I didn’t take very many pictures otherwise because I was a bit photoed-out by the end of the day. Sorry.

Once the conference was over, we had both sets of Grandparents in town and also hung around with Uncle Damian. We were a large traveling group. Savannah LOVED seeing her Grandparents and Uncle. I do believe that Uncle Damian is her new favorite person in the world. Here are pictures of Savannah and I in the photo booth at Amy’s Ice Cream.

Note in the last two she is desperately trying to get away from me and back to the place where the ice cream is located. This ice cream place is only a short walk from our rental house, so I have a feeling we will be there often.

Speaking of rental houses…..we had a heck of a time finding the right one. We wanted to be in town because, let’s face it, we have a child and will be living in the suburbs the rest of our life, so we figured that we would just get it out of our systems while we were looking for a ‘real’ house. However, we didn’t want to live next to a fraternity or a highway, or in a house with lead paint, etc. We also needed a decent sized place that wasn’t too child unfriendly. Anyway, we got lucky and found this little gem.

It was built in 1920 and has been completely updated. I love the charm and quirk of a 1920’s house, but at the same time, I didn’t sign up to be on This Old House. Me like high speed internet and a nice kitchen.

Four bedrooms, two baths, one living area. Long plank hardwood floors and stone. It’s so cute. I don’t have any pictures of the inside yet, but will shoot some when we get down there. I should also credit the above photo to my dad. The house is in a funky little area of Austin and, as mentioned, is within walking distance of really good ice cream. It’s also very close to Damian and our friends Chris and Elizabeth, so it’s a great place to start out and get to know the city.

We are now in massive packing mode as the movers are coming on Wednesday. We will be flying back to Dallas on Friday and then into the house the week after (or whenever our stuff gets there)

I’m tired just thinking about it, but we’re almost there!

christine - Glad you are back and that it sounds like things are coming together for the move! Email me your new address sometime when things settle down!!!
