I hope you don’t think less of me for this

When I was in college, my roommate (Hi Holly!) was reading a book on comedy and one of the first lines was “All comedy is based on someone else’s pain”. I don’t think that has ever been more true than in this video. Make sure your speakers are on and don’t judge me for laughing at this. I KNOW – I’m a bad person.

But this is funny.

26 Months: The Monthly Update

Savannah Jane, our big girl. You are so fun. I can’t get over the things you learn in the span of a month. This month you have been all about singing and talking and getting more confident with your motor skills. You are also testing the boundaries of discipline as only a two-year old can do.

Your Daddy got me a computer that can play the authentic Ms. Pac-Man on the TV. It’s way fun. Now we celebrate the end of dinner with a family Ms. Pac-Man session. It’s doubly stressful for your dad and I as you really only like the ‘videos’ they show at the end of levels 2 and 5 (and I’m sure a higher level – we don’t get that far). You also do a great impression of the dying sound Ms.Pac-Man makes when the ghosts get her.

While you are an amazing talker for your age, you can get mad when you can’t articulate your frustrations. Your go to phrase that means you are a minute from melt down is “I want to throw ______”. It could be the TV, a hug, your Einsteins, dinner, me – whatever is upsetting you. You also are pretty good at responding with a nonchalant “No” when I ask you to do/stop doing something.

You will then also say “No time out!” when you know you’re doing something wrong (Like drawing on the floor). As if that makes your behavior completely appropriate and will save you from punishment. We hate punishing you, but sometimes it’s the only way. It is heartbreaking though because you cry and then, like the other day, you will say “You SORRY! You give Mama a hug now!” Awwwww. We always hug after a time out. Yesterday I asked you why you were making things so hard on Mama – you would NOT put on your shoes so we could go out and it was making me crazy. You looked at me and said “Savannah make things soft for Mama now.” And then you let me put on your shoes.

On a much brighter note, you are getting much more confident in your gross motor skills. You have finally started to climb steps – kindof. You are also much better climbing on the jungle gym. I think that you are just very aware that you could get hurt, so your smartness works against you a little. But I think you are starting to catch up. You were on a big girl swing the other day, although the baby swing is still your favorite because you can go MUCH higher.

You have taken great interest in imitating real life jobs. We play grocery store and bank a lot! The bank is your new favorite place because they give you a lollipop when we make a deposit. I suppose it’s a good motivator to teach you about saving money.

I have answered my work phone a few times around you lately and that had led you to pick up a phone and say “Hello, this is Shannon”. I’ve tried to tell you that you are not Shannon and we have been substituting “Hello, Savannah Cunningham’s office”. You even have a different tone of voice you use. We’re getting there, but once you did pick up the phone and say “Hello, I have a pig”. I didn’t think I would ever stop laughing.

All in all, you are smart, mostly sweet and you do something amazing and fun every day.
