21 Months

I know – I forgot to do a 20-month update and by the time I realized, I figured I would just wait until month 21. So here we are!

It must be so amazing and so frustrating to be 21 months old. You have little control over your life, but everything is so new and exciting!

It has been an amazing month! You talk and talk and talk. I was so impressed today as we left Loews and you turned to the cashier and said “Bye, bye, thank you!”without any prompting. (Funny aside – she refers to any home improvement store as a “grandpa store”- she’s an astute little kid) You also enjoy saying “Bye-Bye! I’ll miss you!” to mom or dad as we leave.

You learn at least five words a day and are always asking about new things. Learning really delights you. We are currently working on names for all the fingers (pointer, middle, ring, etc). You’ll hold up my hand and point to each one and we go over (and over) the names.

Counting is still very popular. You are counting the stairs as we go down them, your shoes, Daddy’s socks, pennies – pretty much anything.

Hair continues to shoot out of your head at an amazing rate. Just today, I think your hair grew during your nap.

You are still not the most physical of kids – your ‘running’ is a little spazzy (and I mean that in the most lovable way) and you are not the most confident in physical activites, but you are getting there. You went down the slide all by yourself with the urging of the Ga-Ga’s. Now it’s all you want to do.

It’s very interesting – you are such a daredevil, but are very aware of what your body can and cannot do. Nothing scares you, but you are very cautious. It’s actually a great mix. I’m pretty thankful that I don’t have a bouncing off the walls baby.

You have been very interested in being with ‘Mama’ the last few weeks. There is a lot of ‘Mama come play with toys TOOOOOOOOO’ and ‘Mama sit here’. There was a tantrum when I told you I had to go to the bathroom the other day. ‘NOOOOOOOOOO!’

Speaking of tantrums, you are definitely hitting the ‘terrific twos’ . You like to get your way and make your displeasure known to everyone around when you don’t get it. On the plus side, you are usually cajoled out of a foul mood with a distraction.

I already mentioned school. I’m so proud of you for doing such a good job on your first day. We hope that it continues.

Still the best kid ever! We love you.

So…..

How did you spend your morning?

I spent mine making turbans for all the Einsteins at the behest of the lady of the house.

and I wouldn’t have had it any other way….

PS – 21 month update is forthcoming!

School

Savannah started Mother’s Day Out this morning……..Here she is eating breakfast and thinking “Geez, lady, it’s just toast – why are you taking a picture?”

Her super cool Einsteins lunchbox and her school bag (filled with extra diapers and a change of clothes)

She loves this lunchbox.

And the playscape at school.

I was a nervous wreck bringing her to ‘school’ this morning. It’s only four hours a week, but it’s very different leaving your baby with strangers at school as compared to a babysitter or nanny.

She apparently did great and only cried a little when she went into the classroom. I was told that crayons seemed to soothe her. She kept saying “mama go?” to the teachers, and then she’d say “right back”. Very cute. We’d been talking about how sometimes Mama goes away, but she always comes right back. Mama on the other hand cried a lot after she left. I did, however, get some things done, so that was great. I finally now have a Texas driver’s license. Only took me 9 months.

She was happily playing on the playscape with the other kids when I came to pick her up. I think I was happier to see her that she was to see me. I got a beautifully colored mouse as a present today. I’m hoping next week is easier for Mama. I think I’m going to get a pedicure……
