Mother of the Year (again)

Savannah locked herself in her room today…..I know, right?

I was right there too! She likes to close the door and then open it to ‘surprise’ me. I let her close the door and then I said ‘where’s Savannah?’, tried to open the door and it was locked!

Sneaky monkey.

Conor walked me through how to get the door unlocked and she was out within 2 minutes.

A little freaky though…..

18 months!

On Saturday, Savannah turned 18 months old.

We were out to eat on Friday and the shuttle launch was on TV at the time. We thought since Savannah loves Rocket from Little Einsteins so much, she would enjoy watching the Space Shuttle take off. We made a huge deal about it and she loved it……

……until, the shuttle was out of camera view. She made the more sign and when we told her we couldn’t make the shuttle come back, she started crying most piteously for Rocket.

It was one of those parenting moments when you really had your child’s best interests at heart, but it blows up in your face anyway.

Savannah has grown up a lot this past month. Her hair has practically shot out of her head and she just looks more like a big kid than a baby. I think it happened while I was in Dallas. I swear her hair grew an inch while we were there. Conor commented on it when we returned and Uncle Damian’s first words when he saw her were “Look at all that hair!” It’s really something.

The increasing word count continues and words are getting much clearer, although she prefers to say just the first syllable of a lot of words. She has amazed everyone that meets her by counting to twenty (although she tends to like to stop at thirteen and tell me “all done!”) and pointing out letters and colors and animals. Her brain power is really astonishing – that’s why I asked the pediatrician about it, I wasn’t sure if we were just being super proud first time parents. She is walking a little more smoothly (although still a little zombie-like) and is trying to climb all over things.

We graduated from Little Gym a few weeks ago and will be continuing on despite Savannah’s reluctance to do a forward roll. The Gym isn’t really about preparing her for a future in gymnastics. If my history is any indication, she will excel more at ballet or soccer or tennis than at gymnastics – I was a total spaz in the gym. It’s about getting her to try new things and hang around other kids. Plus, she really likes that stamp at the end – and she got a ribbon.

The stubborn streak continues – once she sets her mind to something, it is very difficult to change it. I have had to wait out a few tantrums at the office door because she wants to play on the ‘pu’ (computer). I really have no idea where this love of technology comes from ;).

There are a lot of things that I enjoyed about her babyhood, but to really see her personality and communicate with her has been so much fun. She is a little crack up and sometimes I can’t wait for her to wake up from her nap so we can go do something fun (like doing our ‘fancy dances’). Sometimes I can’t wait for her to take a nap so I can relax for a minute. She is still our sweet, affectionate little kid though. I got FOUR kisses before bedtime last night.

Overall, this last month has had a ton of the moments that you fantasize about when you are thinking about what parenting will be like.

We love our little Savannah-Banana!

Gasp!

Today Elmo was thrown off the couch in anger (“No!) in favor of the Einsteins dolls. I gasped out loud.

Alll hail the new kings of the toybox – The Little Einsteins.

I, of course, played out a little Ike and Tina vignette after the fact, much to Savannah’s amusement.

“I didn’t mean it Elmo, Come back, Elmo. I’ll never throw you off the couch again! I didn’t mean it!”

POTD: Einsteins!

Our kid is mad cute, y’all.

The Little Einsteins dolls arrived in the mail today and there was celebration! There was even an “Annie” dance spontaneously choreographed. Leo usurped Annie as the favorite (hilariously pronounced as “Yee-no”) later in the evening, but the pictures were taken during the Annie love-fest.
