Sixteen Months

Holy Cow! Sixteen months! You are a full blown big kid!

We were having dinner with your Uncle Damian the other night and you were doing something amusing that was making him laugh and I said “Quite the personality explosion lately huh?” and that would be how I would sum up the last month – a nuclear bomb of personality. More of a sense of humor! More drama! More talking! More misbehaving! More imagination! More kisses!

You are learning new words every day. Today it was ‘food’ or ‘fooooooooood‘ as you say it. Yesterday it was the dreaded ‘no’. Although you are currently saying it in a very serious way ‘ no no no no’. I’m pretty sure you are just mimicking me because I have to tell you ‘no’ or ‘no touch’ about a billion times a day (up from a million times last month).

We put you in a gym class to get you some more confidence in your gross motor skills. You are starting to warm up to it, although forward rolls are apparently terrifying, as you cry after every one you do. Everything else is OK. There are lots of fun things to climb on and you are very good at hanging on the bars. I was a little surprised by that actually.

You do seem to be the only child in the class that is more interested in the knobs and levers that adjust the various pieces of equipment than actually playing on the equipment. You are also all about the hand stamp that you get at the end of class. You are now asking for it the second we go into the gym. Have you ever tried to get a 16 month old to wait 45 minutes for something?

Little Einsteins and Elmo are still your favorite things. I will hear you wake up and immediately start asking for “all-bow. all-bow, all-bow” over the monitor in the morning. We had a small tragedy with your talking Elmo the other day. He was flung over the side of the Pack and Play and has not spoken since. Maybe he’s just a little traumatized, but you seem pretty sad that he won’t say “Hi Savannah!” anymore.

You have a crocodile xylophone that you got your fingers pinched in the other day. Now, every time you walk by it, you show me your thumb and act like it’s still hurting. We had to publicly admonish the crocodile, and I think you will be friends again soon. Quite the imagination.

On the drama front, you can be a little impatient and a bit of a whiner. I know it’s just your age and that you are smarter than you can communicate, but sometimes I wish for earplugs. But if I had those, then I wouldn’t get to hear you yell “Hiiiiiiii!!! Mama!!!!!” when I come get you from your nap. That makes up for a lot! Kisses to our big girl!

Blech!

I have started posts several times the last two days and just never get around to finishing them. I will rectify this Thursday, I promise.

Take pity on me, my child has learned to say ‘No’ and I’m hearing it a LOT.

Vacation Part II

A few more pictures from the vacation – still more to come.

Also, the 16 month newsletter is forthcoming. We had a busy day with a short nap.

Tree trunk

Savannah had a really good time with the air conditioning unit at the hotel.
