Well Check | 6 year appointment

Just some random ‘I don’t want to forget them’ things from the well check today.

First, I want to say that I LOVE OUR PEDIATRICIAN. SO MUCH! She has seen us through a lot these past five years and I can’t thank her enough for her time (which she gives freely) and her expertise. She is the one who helped us find the perfect allergy medicine that allowed my child to have ONE cold in the last 15 months. ONE! After the spring we had in 2011? That is truly a miracle.

Savannah is 72% for weight and 68% for height. Basically perfectly proportional. Which is awesome and I am SO thankful for her continued healthy growth.

My concerns were very few, but I did want to talk to our doc about Savannah still wearing a pull-up at night. I feel like it’s more of a security blanket than a need at this point, but Little Ms. Anxiety won’t go without it. Our doctor started to ask Savannah if she could try not wearing a pull-up at night every third day for two weeks and then maybe she would get a reward from Mom and Dad. She asked her some questions about ‘What makes you scared?’ (She was referring to the pull-up) Savannah hilariously responded ‘Uhhh…scorpions, cactus, big bears….’. Once the doctor explained she didn’t mean scared in general, but scared about her pull up Savannah said ‘I don’t want to have to sleep in a wet bed.’ Our doctor explained that mom and dad could change her sheets and no one would be mad at her for an accident and then asked her if she would try. Savannah initially freaked out (as she is want to do) and THEN said “OK, here is my offer. I will not wear a pull up for 4 days a week starting next week and after 2 weeks, I get an awesome dessert anytime day.’. Our doctor looked over at me with a ‘Seriously?’ expression. She had not experienced our future hostage negotiator. She then said “She is one smart kid.”

Yeaaaah, we know. She talked early.

The other BEAUTIFUL, wonderful thing is that our doc doesn’t think that S has to go back to the pulmonologist for a check up as he had originally prescribed. If you are new around here, check out the tag ‘the terrible awful’ to see how crappy our Spring was last year. It was something that had been brewing around my brain for a while. This kid has been HEALTHY this year. She’s fought off all the crud that went around school and only missed 2 days the entire year. There is no obvious problem with her lung capacity – she is never out of breath and has just been normal this year. I didn’t think ANOTHER chest X-ray was what we needed and out Ped agreed! Yea!

So, all in all, a  lovely well-check. I am often brought back mentally to the day last spring that we were told she could have a condition that would take her from us early and as I look at her healthy, little (actually not so little anymore) body, I just can’t help but think we are the most fortunate family in the world.

Rising Stars Concert

Watch when she messes up a bit in the beginning. She totally redoubles her efforts after that. Also, wait for the bow at the end. So serious and awesome.

Amy Lambert - Wow. I can’t believe she learned this in one year! This school is incredible.
And when she looks up at you around 0:28, she looks EXACTLY LIKE YOU!

POTD | Bug Fair

Over 100 years ago when I was in Kindergarten, I believe it was considered a success if you came out knowing your colors and letters. Savannah’s Kindergarten class was assigned research projects. Yes, yes they were. Each girl was assigned a bug and they had some specific items they had to include on the project including facts, a fun fact, the habitat and the life cycle. They also had to draw a picture and do all of the writing themselves.

Yesterday was the bug fair at school and MAN are those little people amazing. They all did such a great job and would start their presentation by saying “I’m (Savannah) and I’m going to teach you about the (tiger beetle)”. They were little pros and I couldn’t be prouder of them. They were also allowed to wear home-made costumes, hence Savannah being covered in bugs and wearing antennae.

POTD | Violin

Savannah played Ode to Joy for me on the violin the other night. It was amazing and she has come sooooooo far in music this year. Her final concert is this Thursday and I can’t wait!
